Handling Information Safely

All computers being used for University business should have:

• Antivirus software that automatically updates itself
• UNM IT Supported Operating systems and desktop programs with the latest patches
• Firewall software which is properly configured

Learn to recognize when your computer may be compromised (i.e., when your computer crashes repeatedly or suffers other sudden changes in performance).

Check with UNM IT or your local IT support to determine if your computer is adequately covered. If you feel your account or computer security has been breached, immediately change your password and submit a Security Incident Report to UNM IT. Reporting possible breaches is an issue of ethical compliance.
