Protecting Student Privacy
Student educational records are protected by the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 (FERPA).
Under FERPA, students have the right to:
- Inspect and review their educational records
- Request that their educational records be amended
- Limit the disclosure of personally identifiable information
- Be informed what their rights are under FERPA
At the University of New Mexico, these same rights are conferred to all current and former students.
Parents, spouses, and domestic partners are not entitled to student information.
